About the Team
RDA’s operations in Australia are growing rapidly and we are seeking experienced Commercial Managers to join the Legal and Commercial Team during this exciting and dynamic time. You will be responsible for providing commercial management support, ensuring the management and delivery of delivery of vehicle systems, electronic or weapons and ammunition programs across Rheinmetall’s international group of companies. RDA’s Legal and Commercial function is a dynamic team made up of legal, contract, commercial, intellectual property and trade export control specialists that support the business in delivering and mitigating risk under existing contracts and tendering for new business.
About the role
As the Commercial Manager, you can anticipate some of your day-to-day tasks to include:
- Assist the Commercial Director with leading the commercial function to deliver plan, advise and support to project manager(s) and the business unit on all commercial and contractual issues;
- Lead contracts management staff to ensure contracts are managed in accordance with company procedures and liaise with customers on all contractual matters;
- Support the Supply Chain and Procurement team with engagement of Australian industry to delivery contract objectives – including reviewing procurement strategies, RFT and subcontracts to ensure consistency with overall objectives;
- Manage relationships with internal/external customers and cross business/functional requirements;
- Lead and assist with the negotiations of bids, amendments to current customer contracts and/or survey and quotes;
- Assist the Sales and Program functions in evaluating export opportunities to new markets and customers;
- Drive the development and implementation of commercial policies and practices including the assurance of adherence to functional governance requirements;
- Prepare negotiating strategies to consult, advise & influence senior business stakeholders to achieve business goals;
- Participate in business and contract reviews with customers and provide commercial and relationship support for improvements in operational, service or financial performance;
- Provide leadership support to the Commercial Team through effective coaching and constructive feedback on an individual and on-going basis to maximise performance and development of team members and enable them to take an active role in improving their own performance; and
- Fulfil other duties and responsibilities that may be required as determined with your manager from time to time.

The experience and skillset best suited to this role includes:
Essential:
- Tertiary qualifications in Business, Commerce, Law or equivalent discipline;
- Experience in commercial and financial management of Australian Defence projects;
- Knowledge and experience with ASDEFCON contracting standards and Australian Defence and New Zealand tender and procurement processes;
- Experience in scenario analysis, risk management and contingency planning;
- Excellent understanding of the administration and management of Australian and New Zealand contract law;
- Ability to assist in the development of commercial strategies and consistent processes that deliver competitive advantage to proposals and tenders;
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Defence security clearance; and
- Must be willing to travel interstate and internationally.
Desirable:
- Acquisition experience in the Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG) or Prime Contractor organisation;
- German language skills; and
- Management and /or leadership experience in similar roles.
